Lizzie had her very first day of school ever this last Tuesday. It's just preschool, two days a week, but it's still a super big deal to all of us. This is my very last year hanging out at home during the day with her before full time school starts for the rest of her childhood life, so Ben and I didn't want her gone all 5 days a week or really even 3 days and Ben and I were super picky and adamant that the school was play based with no heavy curriculum... she's only four and just a little kid... they need to play, it's how they learn. We found a great place through her school district, so she goes to an actual elementary school with tons of kids around (there's only 18 in her class with 3 teachers though), and it starts a half an hour after the elementary school starts so we can ease into the getting up early thing... my family's not very good at that (Lizzie's the the only early riser and she's not even up that early, but the rest of us including Abby would be in bed until 10am if the world would let us). It's the perfect warm-up for the real thing next year. Did I mention Lizzie completely and totally, absolutely loves it?! :)Thursday, August 27

Beach Day...
Last Sunday Ben took a "mental health" day off from work (I know, so wrong he even has to work on Sundays lately. Poor guy's been working like crazy to finish his game... such stinky scheduling on this project... anyways) to do something fun, so we pack up the kids and headed for the beach. We didn't go to our usual spot, didn't feel like driving all the way up to Santa Barbara, so we played in Ventura's Harbor Cove for the day. It was so nice and way cooler than being stuck in the heat at home. The cove has a little wave less beach just inside the jetty breaks, perfect for swimming in the ocean, but we played to the left of the big jetty with the waves. It was pretty cool to see the big huge sailboats go in and out of the harbor all day long too. Ben's so awesome for ditching work and the world of Ratchet to come play with us for the day! We miss you!!!

It's so odd to me that Abby is perfectly fine chillin' in the ocean and getting wet, but Lizzie not. When did my little Abby become so adventurous?

Trying to Stay Cool...
This was how we spent our week last week, when it was extremely hot and sticky, and desperately needing to be outside despite the 100 degree weather... before we all drive mommy insane from being stuck indoors, fighting over toys the whole day! We brought out the "water table" (my big purple rubbermaid) and played with the girl's fishing game, painted with water on the concrete patio and just hung out in the shade. I wish we still had the plastic pool, but it was damaged in our move and is now in garbage heaven... so sad.
