Our Camping Trip...

This last Thursday we just returned from 5 glorious days of camping right on the beach (Capinteria State Beach to be exact. It's right between Santa Barbara and Ventura just in case you're curious). Ok, so it wasn't right on the beach, it was about 20 feet from the actual beach itself, but we still had some pretty spectacular views from where we were at. On one side, overlooking our picnic table, we had a lagoon/bird sanctuary and if you looked directly straight out from our tent you had a completely unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean. It was so extremely wonderful to wake up to that every morning (and fall asleep every night to the crashing of the waves).

It was our very first camping trip with Lizzie (and for Ben and I it was the first vacation we've done together in a little over 3 years). Lizzie did extremely well... a lot better than I actually anticipated. I thought for sure something horrible or crazy would happen, but it didn't. The only crazy thing that happened to us was the raccoons raiding our cooler on the very last night and eating all of our cheese and hot dogs, and somehow on the last day of our trip we got sand in our camera (I need to find a place to get it cleaned now... it makes me very sad).

Lizzie loved every minute of camping... being able to get outside everyday, not getting yelled at for getting dirty, chasing little critters and birds everywhere, and playing in the water and sand all day. She's quite the little explorer, completely and totally just like her daddy... always wanting to climb up on the biggest rock or the highest tree and getting into places that bring fear into every mother. I guess that's why dad's are so much more fun. ;)

This is definitely something we'll be doing again. The area itself was just breathtaking and there was so much variety... from the abundantly diverse wildlife (we got to see dolphins every morning and Ben went body boarding with harbor seals) to the spectacular beach that had tide pools and sand like cinnamon and sugar. It was a great way to spend Ben's very first post production vacation and we are very grateful Ben works for such an awesome company that actually places family extremely high on it's list of priorities. Thanks Insomniac for the paid vacation... we so desperately needed it!
